In his memoirs Shuqayri attempted to blunt the sting of the blame attributed to him, by trying to present the issue as part of the Arab-Israeli struggle. He even sought to "revamp" the Lebanese newspaper's version. But he did this for the sake of history, and history has generally treated him unfavorably.

In early 1946 he was appointed head of the Arab Office (an Arab information center) in Jerusalem. In 1950 he joined the staff of the Syrian Foreign Ministry, serving as Syria's representative at the UN.
